This 3D model of a subway station is based on the existing “Museumsinsel” station in Berlin. The goal was to learn the basics of 3D modelling in Maya and texturing in Substance Painter. Almost all the textures derive from photos I took myself.
When I saw the "Museumsinsel" subway station for the first time I was impressed by the monumental structure and extravagant interior. The extensively used stone cladding lets the large walls and floors appear even larger and the long corridor with the repeating lights, give an impression of infinity. In contrast to this minimalistic but massive structure stands the unique deep blue ceiling, covered in LED stars. Since the subway station is not frequented as often as other subway stations in Berlin, the building has an even more exaggerated, grand feel to it. I wanted to capture this spacious, straight forward and almost cathedral-like atmosphere in my 3D project.
